For in-person LLQP exams, candidates are supplied approved reference material electronically. The strongest preparation strategy is therefore not “memorize everything” and not “look up everything.” It is to know enough to recognize the issue quickly and use the reference material efficiently when verification is useful.
1. Know what you should not need to look up
Core product distinctions, common terminology, basic suitability logic and frequently tested relationships should be familiar before exam day. If you have to search for every definition, the 75-minute clock becomes the problem.
2. Practise finding the rule under time pressure
When a question turns on a specific definition, exception or contractual rule, practise identifying the key phrase first. Search or navigate with a purpose instead of rereading large sections of the reference material.
3. Read the client facts before searching
Many application questions can be answered only after you identify what matters: time horizon, dependants, existing coverage, liquidity, affordability, risk, legal obligation or product feature. The reference material does not decide which fact is most important for you.
4. Use a two-pass pacing method
Answer questions you can resolve confidently first. Mark the items requiring longer reference checks and return to them. This protects time for questions where the reference material actually adds value.
5. Practise with the same decision sequence
Issue → relevant client fact → governing concept → best answer → quick verification if needed. Repeating that sequence is more useful than passive rereading.
